1986 BMW 535i
Before I had the ’93 Subaru I had the kind of car a lot of people dream of. Yup I had a BMW 5 series. I think we bought it in or around September of 1998 so that’s what I’m dating this entry as.
For me that car was not a dream . . . Was more of a nightmare.
To start off there was some kind of mold growing in the vents so I had massive allergy attacks every time I drove it (which was very infrequent believe me).
I didn’t feel that I could rely on it at all. It was hard to get started and it didn’t have the sound that gives you confidence that it would stay started.
To top it all off, I guess I just can’t appreciate the way the car handled. I hear everyone talking about how great BMWs handle and how that’s the kind of car you want to drive just because it handles so well . . . I was not impressed. That car was very hard to drive in my opinion. Although it could have been something wrong with the car rather than with my idea of how a car should handle.
I had it from October ’98 to March ’99 (when I got the Subaru) and I drove it all of about five times. Instead of the BMW I ended up driving the Toyota Previa and the Mazda 929 that my parents had.
But hey the Bimmer was my first car. So it’s worth mentioning. It LOOKED nice at least!
Unfortunately I don’t know the specifications of the car, just that it was a pretty well loaded up ’86 BMW 535i.
